Amy Lane - Galveston, TX

What is it?

We are so blessed and honored to be working with the Amy Lane family! We pray that this partnership will bless those in need in the Galveston community.

On one of our visits to Galveston to see Alek, one of the women who went to the hospital to love on Alek took us to Amy Lane to meet John & Stacey. Aside from a great store with a lot of beautiful items, we were taken back by their prayer wall. Here, visitors from the community, and around the world, could make their prayers known to the God and to others. Our hearts were immeasurably touched by the reality (and number) of these prayers!

What did we learn?

We learned so much with this project. We worked with Hackberry, Black Walnut, and White Oak in various ways with making all of these items. Each wood has a different texture and works just a little differently in all the steps of the process, especially sanding. Some woods are a little softer than others, so when sanding products with different wood species laminated together, you have to be cautious to sand the harder woods enough and the softer woods not too much.

We also worked with several different finishes including Rubio Monocoat, Odie’s Oil, Walnut Danish Oil, and even tried a new to us competitor of Rubio. Some still remain our favorites while others were new-to-us discoveries that have become a permanent part of our finishing repertoire.

The designs of all the products were custom and unique. We used videos from Alex Snodgrass and others to get ideas and expand on them (e.g. the Apple Boxes). We also found that the scraps created from one project can be leveraged to create amazing things in another! For example, with the square Prayer Box, we started out with a large block of laminated Black Walnut. After we cut out the first Prayer Box, there was a lot of useful material left. So we glued that together and Mrs. Woodworking came up with an idea for the design of the second one. It worked out great! Take a look at the collection and tell us if you can see where else we may have leveraged pieces left from one product to create another!

In Closing…

God graciously provides not only for our needs, but to use what He gives, our time, talents, and treasure, for His purposes. He put it on our hearts to help answer some of these prayers through the means He’s provided.

It is our honest hope that the money raised can change the lives of those in need in Galveston.

Thank you John, Stacey, and the rest of the Amy Lane family for all you do! Please give Amy Lane a visit by pointing your browser to:
