Climb aboard! We’re Expecting you!

What is it?

Have you ever taken on a project that stretched you?  We LOVE those projects!  Frankly, we have never built one of these before, so there might be a lot of thinking out loud, but it was a great experience and we learned a lot.  Come along for the journey and join Adam, our Chief Mistake Officer, as we build a boat.  Okay, it won't float.  It is intended to be used for kid play and photography.  Come aboard.  We're expecting you!

What did we learn?

Well, we learned how to bend wood without breaking it. While you can wet or steam wood to do this, we didn’t want to take the chance of the layers coming apart on the plywood. So we went to our friends at the Central Indiana Woodworkers and learned a different technique. We used thinner layers of plywood, bent them to the shape we wanted, then glued on additional layers of the same wood.

Our other big learning was trimming out the top edge of the boat. Normally, for Birch plywood, we would just use edge banding. But we wanted to give the client something nicer, so me cut Silver Maple strips and pieces to provide a nicer edge for the top and the corners.

In Closing…

We are thankful to the Almighty God for the opportunity to work with this client. We are thankful for the client who came to us to help her with this project. It was fun, and we look forward to the next challenge!
